Personal Power and Comfort Zone

Lisa Steadman, interviewed for the Powered By Women Summit, gives some very potent tips on stepping into your personal power by… stepping out of your comfort zone.

Is your ego preventing you from adjusting your perspective so that you can make necessary changes in critical aspects or your life? Well, in order to experience a breakthrough, you first need to realize that your ego is not serving or supporting you. Many women are afraid to try a different approach. However, it all starts with awareness which then manifests in your behaviour. Breakthroughs can be achieved when you pierce the limiting lining of your comfort zone. You already know that you can’t repeat the same behavioral pattern and expect a different result. Progress comes from movement, action, and flow. Give yourself permission to release the restrictions imposed by your ego and allow yourself to try a different way just for once. To effect such a transformation, you may want to consider tapping into a support network of people who can relate to you through similar experiences. They can help you find the courage to move forward.

Lisa is an excellent example of such a transformation from powerlessness to a life of full expression and more positive emotions. Specifically, she recounts how she was walking around like a zombie outside of herself; but she is grateful for the fact that this experience eventually led her to discover a deeper level of herself and opened her up to the feeling of love for a child. With the help of her husband, she came to realize that it was up to her to become receptive to this new experience. It was not that it was not available to her; it was that she was not open to it. So she made the choice to move from the comfort zone of resistance to surrender to the love of a child.

When you choose to remain permanently static in your comfort zone, you falsely believe that you have access to enough love, talent, time, and admiration and also feel that you have relative control. But according to science, there are more benefits when you challenge yourself and enter a state of ‘’Optimal Anxiety’’. Studies show that in such a state, you can attain greater results and productivity. It is also very beneficial if you vary the challenges you take on so that you substantially widen your horizons. If you have been exercising in the same park for a long time, try out a different location; if you have been reading the news from the same online newspaper, start browsing through a different one. Small changes in your daily routine can pave the way for bigger ones. Take one step at a time so that you gradually

  •  move to full expression,
  • achieve full embodiment,
  • feel comfortable with your own body,
  • become more vulnerable, and
  • experience more joy.
