“To change a habit, make a conscious decision, then act out the new behavior.”
~Maxwell Maltz~
Do you ever have a feeling that you’re drifting through life, and not going where you want to go? Or that you don’t know how you got where you are today? Far too many individuals, when they actually pause long enough to consider these questions, share these feelings at some point in their lives.
The things that are hidden from awareness, Freud believed, exert the greatest influence over our personalities and behaviors. Not only are we at risk of being basically asleep within our world, lack of consciousness often contributes to life happening “to us” as opposed to “guided by us”. Try using these 4 steps to increase conscious growth:
- Aspiration – Tap into your desire to grow in your consciousness
- Find Your Truth – Enhancing consciousness starts within and extends to your external surrounding. Find and live your truth so that it will lead to all areas of your life.
- Intention – With your truth and sincere desire, you can now clearly outline your intention to incorporate conscious practices.
- Attention or Focus – It is time to take this foundation and start to move in the direction of your consciousness. This might include practices such as meditation, mindfulness or prayer.
“A higher state of consciousness will not simply happen one fine morning. The sapling of consciousness is within you — it needs to be nurtured through spiritual practices like meditation. Some coconut trees yield in three years, and some in 10 years. And those that are not nurtured never yield, they simply exist.” ~Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Along with the steps listed above, becoming more conscious can begin with being a quiet, accepting observer to your experiences. With the flood of daily competing stimuli and experiences, maintaining focus often requires intermittent checkpoints throughout the day. Conscious-seeking achievers can ask themselves “is what I am doing at this moment focused on my vision for this aspect of my life?” Knowing what activities are synchronized will become easier to detect as time goes on.
Even the most focused mompreneurs will admit that they sometimes need to remove things that are known to distract them at certain times or entirely in order to preserve their focus on targeted activities. Remember it is the sustained efforts that will produce the greatest results. Being conscious and aware is about opening your eyes to the world and to the countless possibilities.
The deepest part of who we are, our consciousness or spirit, longs to be experienced. The problem is that it gets covered up by so many layers of experiences that shape this reality over the years. So many have unfortunately become extremely efficient at doing things with little to no awareness – our experiences run consistently on auto pilot. Realize how much you might be operating on auto pilot and with that new found awareness, you will be able to open the gateway to a conscious magnificent life .
