“Commitment unlocks the doors of imagination, allows vision, and gives us the right stuff to turn our dream into reality.”
~James Womack
As I reflect on the Mompreneurs Conference from this weekend, I think about the magnificent essence of women (and some men) who are connected by a similar yet unique journey. Beyond the call to entrepreneurship is an even more significant union – bringing one’s magnificence to its greatest capacity in all of the highest priority areas of life.
Commitment moves us from the mirror trap of the self absorbed with the self to the freedom of a community of shared values.”
~Michael Lewis
When mompreneurs approach their multifaceted lives with acceptance and congruency, everything flows much more smoothly. Giving yourself permission to BE sets the groundwork for you to BUILD magnificently in all areas of your life. Arlene talked about her priorities (self, family and business) and the ways in which she elevated her capacity to support the lifestyle she envisioned. She made sacrifices and took risks that many questioned. If you are a woman wanting to start her own business or have done so already, you will understand what she means. It reminds me of the core attributes that I refer to often when it comes to “life wealth” and experiencing self-defined, limitless success:
- Desire
- Commitment
- Focus
- Perseverance
- Detachment
- Consciousness
- Guts
- Constructive Defiance
- Self-Assurance
- Positive Associations
No matter what we are striving to achieve, our mind is the director of our “plane”. It is the vessel that takes us from one destination to the next. How have you been flying your plane? What characteristics listed above are present in your life today? What course will you take?
Arlene is one example of a woman who embodied these characteristics to arrive at her current destination (not final destination of course). She made a commitment…then she made it happen. One day, one week, one month, one year, one opportunity all accumulated to the life she is experiencing now.
We all have those moments when we ask ourselves if we are crazy and on the wrong course. And sometimes we are. But the “wrong” course is only wrong for that particular time. Norman Vincent Peale said “it’s always too early to quit.”
When your magnificent mind is open to the possibilities and can effectively integrate the transformation from your experience, you excel. As Arlene said, “if it doesn’t bring the results, move on from it and learn from it!”
So I ask you, what are you truly committed to? Does this commitment show in your daily activities? Are you clear about your “why” for this commitment? What are you doing to make it happen? Many of us do quite well when it comes to stating what we want in our lives – not so good at committing deeply and even worse at making it happen.
From commitment to making it happen:
- Know your why
- Strengthen your commitment
- Recognize your resources
- Acknowledge the obstacles
- Keep up the momentum
- Enjoy the success
- REPEAT
Reflection: “Without commitment, you cannot have depth in anything, whether it’s a relationship, a business or a hobby.” ―Neil Strauss
