Many great things and accomplishments have started from a simple, creative inspiration. We are all creative beings and nurturing creativity can, for the most part, be a challenging mission for individuals who have lost their natural abilities. What sets many success stories apart from others is often the capacity to create and continue creating. Creativity can apply to just about every facet of your life and it can reveal hidden passions. New possibilities and experiences evolve from an innovative mind.
While creativity itself may not be something that can be taught directly, we are capable of cultivating the circumstances which will foster the greatest chances for true creative expression. Judith Orloff, M.D. wrote in her book, Positive Energy: 10 Extraordinary Prescriptions for Transforming Fatigue, Stress & Fear into Vibrance, Strength and Love, that “creativity is the Mother of all energies, nurturer of your most alive self. It charges up every part of you”. She says that creativity encompasses an “opening to the blended intuitive rhythm of imagination, heart and intellect. It entails feeling inwardly before you act”.
Creativity Flows From a Peaceful Mind and Healthy Body
Regardless of the particular area or activity that you would like to have greater creativity in, the results will be affected by the condition of your mind, body and other influential factors –where you are, who is in your environment, your state of mind, your energy level, and existing sources of sound are only a few of the many elements that could augment or interfere with your creative flow.
Plant Your Creative Mind
Think of your creativity as you would a plant. Think of the elements that will make it thrive. Does your mind have the right nutrients? Is it planted in fertile soil? Is it basking in sufficient sun? Does your mind have enough space to continue to grow?
Check to see what you’ve planted. If you plant turnips you will not harvest grapes (Akan proverb). So many of us have been stifling our growth through unhealthy practices and wonder “how did this happen?” When we are aligned with our truth, we can see that what we’ve been nurturing is in opposition to where we say we want to be. Your ability to allow creativity to flow depends on the action taken to allow this to become your reality.
Good or evil, constructive or destructive, our lives will bear the fruits of the seeds we plant in our minds… We plant the roses and we plant the weeds. ~ Iyanla Vanzant (Acts of Faith)
Affirmation: I am allowing the creative energy of my mind to flow freely and fully. My capacity to create is infinite.
