Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.

Negativity and Mind Health Don’t Mix

August 23, 2012 - Mind Health for Women -

Like oil and water, negativity and mind health just don’t mix. There are times when we have to make important personal decisions about our relationships when they are toxic on some level. This is often much harder for women because our tendency is to avoid hurting the feelings of others, to sacrifice for others and to rescue others.

If given the choice,  be selective about your contact with pessimistic people. Surround yourself with positive-thinking individuals that exude good vibes and are motivated to do great things in life. Passion often begets productivity. Be with people who are always enthusiastic to make things happen and make healthy changes in their lives.

Uppsala University in Sweden conducted a study where photos of happy or angry faces were revealed to participants for thirty milliseconds, which was then immediately followed by neutral faces. Despite the fact that they did not realize they had just seen a happy or angry face, they responded with noticeable facial reactions of their own that corresponded to the emotion they had just seen.

The extent to which you become emotionally affected by another often depends on the degree of intimacy and emotional significance of that particular relationship. Although the previous research example demonstrated that people are affected by exposure to emotions despite the absence of these factors, people who live, are connected to or work together are more likely to influence each other related to emotions.

Northwestern University researchers also studied the emotional responses of both dating partners and college roommates.  They found that people in both types of relationships became more alike in their emotional reactions. It was also noted that dating partners who demonstrated emotional resemblance had relationships that were more solidified with lower rates of dissolution.  The findings suggested that some individuals are more likely to spread their emotions while others could be more susceptible to catching the moods of others.  Your awareness in both areas is essential for the health of your mind and overall well-being in addition to those who are in contact with you. The ideal is to catch lots of positive emotions – your friend’s enthusiasm over a new opportunity – and avoid the negative ones.

Strive to achieve the goals you have set. You will find strength to do this when you walk the road to success with successful, optimistic individuals who likewise make it their mission to say NO to NEGATIVITY.
