Think Being Magnificent Minded Is Irrelevant for Leaders? Think Again

June 21, 2012 - Mind Health for Leaders - ,

It is unfortunate that the vast majority of people who are in leadership positions have adopted the viewpoint that there is no need to devote their attention to internal, personal development processes. They attempt to create a division between who they are in private and the role that they assume in the public, career realm.  I adamantly disagree. Your full expression of self is very much relevant to all areas of your life. There is no distinction.

You are living your life to its full potential when you are engaged from a place of innate, all-encompassing magnificence. In other words, when you are fully present, you are supporting your ability to enjoy the magnitude of your capabilities.  This, in turn, will affect those with whom you have direct contact.  It’s collaboration. You are a collaborate leader.

Let’s refer back to one of the hallmark contrasts between the magnificent and muted self.

In my book I noted that while the magnificent self seeks to inspire others, the muted self is more likely to deflate or belittle others. They thrive on the opportunity to uplift and inspire others whenever possible. The fundamental belief is that they are not the only ones deserving of happiness but that their happiness can be extended to and a model for others. The Magnificent Minded leader is conscious of the interconnected, reciprocal nature of all interactions.

Here are some things to think about:

  1. Ho w do you define leadership?
  2. What type of leader are you?
  3. As a leader, are you expressing your many gifts fully and in a collaborative manner?
  4. Do you genuinely want the best for and give the best to others?
  5. How is your magnificence absent in your leadership role?

These are key questions that many will never take the time to explore. You have the opportunity to enjoy the rewards that flows naturally from any relationship where you can enrich the life of another person. Every encounter can not only be a vessel for their advancement but consequently your own as well. It is a choice and it begins with the practices that promote the health of your mind.
