The Power of the Mind to Bring Wealth

To change my outer world, I must first change my inner world” (Eker, 2004).

Power Word is: Wealthy

Many of you know that I have been in the helping profession for more than 17 years now. As a social worker and coach, I have had moments in my own life when I have had to do my own introspection. We are in this field for a reason – to give and support others. What I needed to remember at various phases was that the life wealth (enriched experiences) that I encouraged my clients to discover is also essential to continue to do this work with passion and energy.

For example, in 2002 I made a mental and spiritual shift that would take me on a very clear path of restoration. I decided that it was time to put as much time and effort into myself as I was providing to my clients. I revised my book library to include fewer titles that reflected their personal growth needs and expanded the collection with titles that I felt I would benefit from at that time. The proverb, “the true giver begins with herself” became one of my new mottos. I think that I read every book written by Iyanla Vanzant in addition to many others such as The Gift of a Year, written by Mira Kirshenbaum, which emphasized the need to discover and live life within the realms of your authentic truth. What an epiphany I experienced! I felt truly rich – on an internal and external level.

I felt as though a huge weight had been lifted the very moment that I recognized the value that I brought to the world and how to be at peace regardless of the absence of the ideal partner. This was not my first awakening but it was a profound one. I took that new found confidence and conviction and plastered it on my forehead for everyone to see. It was not in the form of bragging but in a way that naturally flowed from me. I felt as though I was surrounded by an aura of strength and self-assurance. I listened to music that was spiritually uplifting and started to compile a list of things that the former me would never have entertained. I let the essence of my revised greatness guide me to new heights that beckoned me to try new things. I acknowledged the tough lessons learned and vowed to remain on a forward journey. Of course, there have been times when I have needed to remind myself to pay attention to the principles that maintain my direction on this path.

The Key Lesson Was This…

True inner wealth can be magnetic to outer wealth, if we encourage it to be. Your inner magnificence will attract abundance and greatness when it can flourish without constraints. You have probably heard me say that the freedom to BE creates the foundation for the freedom to BUILD the life that you envision.  Limitations, restrictions, fear, self-doubt, and hopeless cannot support your best to arrive. When the mind is directed by these feelings and the resulting behaviour, its easy to guess what results… very little.  And when little happens in the direction towards where we say we would like to be, we ask ourselves why.

The magnificence of the mind cannot be underestimated because it has the power to change our lives. To change our inner world, we have to examine ourselves and deeply reflect on what is going on in our mind. We have to look into the mirror and face the person who is actually possessing that power to create “success“ by optimizing the mind which controls how we think and what we do. Our thoughts influence our actions so it is necessary to understand that our internal environment which refers to the body and mind can direct action which will be seen as results of thought processes in our external environment. This external environment may include the psychosocial, educational, interpersonal and sociocultural interactions that we experience day to day.

How Wealthy Are You Right Now?

I believe that actual wealth is not limited to finance. Affluence also manifests as magnificence in relationships, health, richness of life experience, creative inspiration, and qualities of character such as compassion, and wisdom. As you increase your flow of giving and receiving, you recognize more and create the space for more. If your hope is to enjoy wealth in all life areas, give generously (yet thoughtfully) of the forms of wealth that already exist.
